You know vaping messes with your lungs. But that’s not all. Every vape you toss must go somewhere. Spoiler: it’s not good.
In one year, over 201 MILLION vapes were sold in the U.S. That’s 201 million devices – plastic, metal, batteries – headed for landfills and oceans. Disposable vape use jumped 1,000% among high schoolers. Use once, toss forever.
Lithium-ion batteries that can explode. Toxic heavy metals like lead and mercury. Plastic that never breaks down. Vape waste is actually worse than cigarette butts.
Over half of young people toss vapes in regular trash. Another 17% put them in recycling bins that can’t handle batteries. And 10% throw them on the ground. Why? Almost half don’t know what else to do. Every tossed vape breaks down into microplastics flowing into our oceans and wildlife.
Vape companies give ZERO disposal instructions. Nearly half of the devices come with no info at all. There’s no real recycling system, and 74% of people can’t find drop-off sites. There’s no clear system to handle any of it.
You already get it. 87% of young people know vape waste is litter. 3 out of 4 say they’d recycle – if anyone told them how. The problem isn’t you. It’s a system that wasn’t designed with the environment in mind. But now you know. And knowing the full picture puts you in control.
Every tossed vape breaks down into microplastics flowing into our oceans and wildlife.
